What about Time

What about the most expensive thing we own. Time. When I hear Jesus talking about treasure I am not sure he really means money. I know that we tend to spend time to get money to get other things. But the basic is time. As we continue in ministry and I see that we as a family will not be able to spend time to earn vast amounts of money, I am consumed with the thought of Time. We have chosen to spend our time for God only. Not that that isn't any different than if we were to spend our time in a job that earned a lot of money. It is still for God. Maybe that is why it is hard for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. Maybe he has the illusion that he is getting to use his time to get money as well as do God's will. I guess it really goes back to the heart. Are we really serving God where we are? Or are we trying to somehow serve ourselves as well as God. A house divided will fall & it will just not function as a very good house until it falls.
So as I think about serving in a pastor position for the rest of our lives, it is easy to think we are giving up a whole path and access to excessive wealth. That is a thought that is easy to have in North America. We have a unique ability in America and Canada to start from nothing and gain large sums of wealth. There are amazing stories. And many of them come from Christians that have really just served God and God has taken them to a position of great wealth.
Yet, I am left with the comment from Jesus that the poor will always be with us, so we should honor the Savior while he is to be found with us. We all have time. All of us will have different amounts of wealth. But, we all have equal access to time and worship of God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I know that the time that is given to us to be with God was very expensive. It cost God a lot of pain and patience and longing. Everyone's time here on earth has been purchased at an incredible price. We don't even have the burden of planning and knowing what we will do. If we seek God's will, He has assured us we will find it. He wants to do a group project with us....Life.
Lord Jesus, help me know how precious my time is while I am here on this earth. Help me not be stingy with my time. Help me give it over to you so you can multiply it and my one little action for one little moment can effect as much of the world has you would have it. Help me take joy in the task that you have set before me...cleaning....laundry...dishes...as they all represent the incredible riches you have bestowed on me as I have tried to do your will each day. Somehow in my time each day let me reflect a part of your greatness. I am grateful for your love and care for me especially through Jesus Christ. Amen
Hopefully,Jen
